Where your photos go when you use Graycard.

Graycard reads your photos where they are and never uploads them. What it keeps on your Mac, what leaves it and when, and how to clear it all.

In short

Only where you send them.

Graycard reads your photos where they are, on your Mac, a card, or a drive, and finishes them on your Mac with its own color engine. Photos are never uploaded. There’s no account to make, and no library to import into.

A photo goes somewhere new only when you export it, to a folder you choose, or share it, to a place you pick.

01Where things go, and when

What Where it goes When
Photos you export A folder you choose When you export
Photos you share AirDrop, Messages, Mail, Photos, or another service on your Mac When you press Share
A Graycard Pro purchase Apple, through the Mac App Store When you buy
Analytics PostHog, in the EU Only after you turn it on

Your camera files are never changed, moved, or deleted, and Graycard never picks the card or the folder of the originals as an export folder on its own: choosing one asks first.

02Analytics is off until you turn it on

Graycard sends no crash reports, and there are no accounts. Analytics is off until you turn it on in Settings › Privacy. When it’s on, anonymized events and an anonymous install ID go to PostHog in the EU. Photos, recipes (each photo’s color settings), exports, folder paths, and client names are never included. Turning analytics off deletes the install ID.

03What stays on your Mac

In Graycard’s Application Support folder: folder bookmarks, recipes, looks, job journals, an Auto-cull file for each shoot, and a disposable 2 GB thumbnail cache. Auto-cull saves the face measurements it takes for a shoot there too, and removing the folder deletes that file.

04What an exported photo carries

Exported photos keep the shot date, camera, lens, exposure, your credit, and IPTC. The camera’s MakerNote is dropped. The location stays unless you remove it.

The Location row on the export sheet decides that. Remove drops GPS and the IPTC location fields, such as sublocation, city, state, and country, and captions and keywords you typed stay as they are. For sharing removes the location from the start, and Full size and Print keep it.

05Paying for Graycard Pro

Graycard Pro is sold through the Mac App Store, and Apple processes the payment. Graycard never receives your card number or your Apple Account password.

06Clearing it

  • One shoot: right-click it in the sidebar and choose Remove from Sidebar. Your photos are not touched.
  • Caches and history: Settings › Privacy › Clear Cache, and Clear next to job history.
  • Analytics: turn it off in Settings › Privacy, and the install ID is deleted.
  • Everything: delete Graycard from Applications, then the folder ~/Library/Containers/com.sideswipelabs.graycard.

07When you write to us

Write to graycard@sideswipelabs.com with your Graycard and macOS versions, the camera, and what happened. Please don’t attach client photos: a description is enough, and we never need the files. The full details are in the privacy policy.
